Cottage cheese is an underrated ingredient. Most people don’t know how delicious it is or how many ways it can be used in recipes. You can eat them as is, make cottage cheese eggs, veggie cottage cheese dips or pita wedges, or serve them with sweet or savory toppings. Whipped cottage cheese can be substituted for cream cheese or ricotta cheese on cottage cheese toast. Or add it to avocado toast for a high-protein breakfast. Or you can use it as an ingredient to make a sweet breakfast or savory lunch. The opportunities are endless! And best of all, it’s an incredibly healthy ingredient.
Cottage cheese is a great source of protein and these easy recipes are sure to satisfy. Here are 14 of my favorite healthy cottage cheese recipes. Every recipe is packed with flavor and healthy nutrients.
What is cottage cheese?
Cottage cheese is a delicious and very affordable dairy product. A type of fresh cheese to be exact, it has a creamy texture similar to yogurt or sour cream. Making cottage cheese is easy. As with most cheeses, acid is added to the milk. This separates the milk solids, called curds, from the liquid, called whey. Then cut the curd into small pieces, rinse and lightly salt. This gives it a moist, slightly lumpy texture, much like tapioca.
what does it taste like?
Cottage cheese tastes a lot like cream, but with a little more acidity and saltiness. It has a very rich and mellow cheese-like taste. If you like other dairy products, you are likely to like cottage cheese as well.
is that good for you?
It’s not just good for you… it’s wonderful for you. One of the main reasons I eat so much cottage cheese is that it is rich in important nutrients and minerals such as calcium and B vitamins. In addition, it is rich in protein. And most of all? Cottage cheese is really low in calories. Would you believe me when I told you that 1 cup of low-fat cottage cheese has just 91 calories and a whopping 26 grams of protein?
Is cottage cheese healthier than yogurt?
I love cottage cheese and yogurt because they are very good for you. You can’t go wrong with either of these materials. Although the health benefits are about the same, cottage cheese is higher in protein than Greek yogurt.
Is cottage cheese healthier than regular cheese?
That’s certainly true. Cottage cheese is much healthier than regular cheese because it contains much less fat. In fact, full-fat cottage cheese contains only about 4% fat. compared to 30% for cheddar cheese. It’s not a fair fight!
Is cottage cheese good for weight loss?
Perfect for weight loss. When friends say they’re trying to lose weight, I always recommend trying cottage cheese. One of the best things you can do to lose weight is eat a low-calorie, high-protein diet. Cottage cheese is perfect for that purpose.

Peaches are one of my favorite foods to eat with cottage cheese. Sweet fruits and creamy, sour dairy products go very well together. This recipe takes peaches to the next level by cooking them with brown sugar and cinnamon. Add some pistachios for crunchiness and a little honey for sweetness. amazing!
