Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado —
The 310th Space Wing, the Air Force Reserve’s only space wing, continually works to find innovative ways to better support space operations. The 310th Intelligence, Reconnaissance and Surveillance Airmen face unique challenges in this effort.
Eric Hertzberg, 310th SW Information Systems and Security Officer, has played a central role in these efforts, creating quality solutions to these challenges by bringing new capabilities to the 310th ISR Airmen. I did.
Lt. Col. Nicholas Demacakos, 310th Space Wing senior intelligence officer, said access to software that provides critical training opportunities and mission readiness capabilities is not always guaranteed for intelligence personnel within the wing. .
310th ISR Airmen now integrate with active-duty members within the Space Force to engage more vigorously in space operations, but they also rely on access to software systems.
“We had to borrow time to use their system,” Demakakos said. “These are capabilities that were needed for training and readiness and did not have unlimited access.” Herzberg is currently working on three network solutions for implementing spatial modeling simulation and visualization software, and We are saving approximately $150,000 in installation costs,” said Demakakos. “Not only does this save money on the wing, but it also provides functionality that has been missing for many years.”
In June, Hertzberg received the 2023 Air Force Reserve Command Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Contributor Award for his contributions to the 310th ISR Mission.
“That was a surprise,” Hertzberg said. “What is important to me is not about awards or achievements, but how I can best support the wingers.”
Demakakos said Herzberg was instrumental in the ISR’s communications efforts, implementing protocols to establish a secure communications network at Vandenberg, Schriever, Peterson and Buckley, providing continuity between bases that had not previously been available. It is said that he has established his sexuality.
“Eric has made an invaluable contribution to achieving ISR’s communications strategy within the wing,” Demacakos said. “Thanks to his efforts, we are now able to connect and communicate in ways we were not able to before.”
