A juicy lamb patty topped with feta, salad, and creamy tzatziki mimics the big, bold flavors of an authentic Greek gyro sandwich, but in burger shape.
material
tzatziki
1/2 telegraph cucumber (coarsely grated)
1 cup Greek yogurt
1 clove of garlic (minced)
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh mint
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh dill
lamb burger
Lamb mince 400g
1/2 small red onion, finely chopped
2 cloves of garlic (minced)
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh oregano
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh dill
2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh mint
Finely grated rind and juice of half a lemon
4 hamburger buns (halved and toasted)
greek salad
4 lettuce leaves
100g feta cheese (thinly sliced)
4 small tomatoes (sliced)
1/2 telegraph cucumber (sliced)
Method
Tzatziki: Squeeze as much liquid as possible from the cucumber and add it to the bowl with the yogurt, garlic, mint, and dill. Season with salt and pepper and set aside to cool.
Lamb burger: In a large bowl, combine lamb, onion, garlic, herbs, lemon zest, and juice. Season well with salt and pepper. Mix well with your hands and form into 4 equally sized round flat patties.
Grill or pan-fry the burger patty for 3 to 4 minutes on one side and 1 to 2 minutes on the other side for medium-rare, or more if desired. Transfer the burgers to a plate and let them rest for a few minutes, then serve on the buns with plenty of salad ingredients and tzatziki.
