Innovation in hygiene Technology and renewable energy move quickly, perhaps too quickly.
Although there is no shortage of clean technology solutions available on the market today (and in the future), we are now facing a new problem: a shortage of people who can install and maintain the technology.
The clean technology industry is expected to create 8 million jobs by the end of 2030, according to a new report Recent report By the International Energy Agency. These numbers appear to be based on current policies, and if more resources are directed toward the clean energy transition, the report’s authors expect the number to rise as well. But creating more jobs does not mean that there will be enough trained people to fill them.
Berlin-based Montamo wants to solve this problem. The startup employs and trains people to install and maintain sustainable heat pumps. It trains people new to trades, provides upskilling training for those with some experience, and installs and maintains equipment for other companies. The company hopes to expand into other areas, such as solar energy, as it grows.
Montamo wants to have a positive social impact, too, co-founder Alexander Baum told TechCrunch+. Boehm said the company wants to be intentional about hiring and training migrant workers, because it can be difficult for immigrants to get a good job in Germany regardless of their skills or background. This is something Boehm witnessed firsthand when he worked as COO at express grocery delivery startup Gorillas, and he doesn’t want their skills to go to waste.
