United Airlines passengers hoping to travel back in time in the new year got an inauspicious start to 2024.
Flight UA200 was originally scheduled to depart Guam on January 1, 2024 at 7:35 a.m. and land in Honolulu, Hawaii on December 31, 2023 at 6:50 p.m., transporting passengers across time zones. I was planning to bring him back a year ago.
“You only live once, but you can celebrate New Year’s Eve twice!” United Airlines had it. tweeted earlier in the week. Another Instagram post about UA200 read, “Time travel is real.”
Changing time zones in the new year is not a new habit. Each year, a small number of flights offer passengers the chance to relive their New Year’s Eve celebrations, and airline crews sometimes mark the occasion multiple times on a single route.
However, those who rode the UA200 were disappointed. The flight was delayed and ultimately left Guam at 1:49 p.m. on January 1 and arrived in Honolulu at 12:34 a.m. on January 1, missing the countdown.
Afterwards, several passengers voiced their complaints on X (formerly Twitter).
“Great idea, but too bad it was delayed! I was scheduled to be on this flight. Double New Year will no longer be happening,” one person wrote under the original United Airlines tweet. Ta.
Another comment read: “This is what I booked this flight for.” “We received notice of the delay, but he is scheduled to arrive on January 1st.”
Airlines responded to X by providing rebooking assistance to passengers.
Passengers on other scheduled flights were luckier. For example, Cathay Pacific flight CX872 departed Hong Kong just after 1am on January 1st and arrived in San Francisco at 8:22pm on December 31st. All Nippon Airways flight NH106 departed Tokyo at 12:48 a.m. on January 1st and arrived in Los Angeles at 5:12 p.m. on December 31st.
