An extended-stay hotel is planned south of County Road 466 and about a third of a mile east of Route 301 in Oxford.
The 122-room, four-story WoodSpring Suites will be built along County Road 106.
Special Judge Lindsay C.T. Holt recommended approval of the project site plan at Tuesday’s Wildwood Planning and Zoning Commission meeting. The City Commission will likely consider the plan later this month.
Due to the expected increase in traffic, developers must take responsibility for CR 106 upgrades and impose performance guarantees. Issues regarding sewer and water expansions must also be resolved before final approval.
The 51,341-square-foot hotel sits on 2.7 acres and features 126 parking spaces, including a compact garage and handicap parking.
Founded in 2003, WoodSpring Suites, known as Value Places until 2015, operates approximately 250 hotels in 38 states and Washington, DC.
Choice Hotels, which has more than 500,000 rooms worldwide, acquired the WoodSpring Suites brand in 2018 for $231 million. The hotel chain is managed by Nationwide Hotel Management Company, and private real estate companies own many of the hotels.
The hotel is pet-friendly and non-smoking, with in-suite kitchens. Some hotels have fitness centers.
Guests can bring their own plates, silverware, pots and coffee makers, or purchase kitchen packs at the front desk.
The company offers lower room rates to customers who book for a week or more. Housekeeping services are provided on a biweekly basis or more for a fee.
