Oatmeal is one of my favorite breakfasts, especially on cold winter days. It’s warm, comforting, and packed with nutrients thanks to whole grains. Plus, there are plenty of options for switching up flavors. The only problem? Oatmeal itself doesn’t contain as much protein as I would like.
I’m always looking for smart ways to get more protein in my diet, especially since I don’t eat a lot of meat. When Jennifer Aniston discovered a hack to boost protein by simply adding it to her morning oatmeal, I knew I had to give it a try. surely, friend Star must be thinking about something, right? Now egg white oatmeal has become my new favorite breakfast.

How to make egg white oatmeal
This quick and easy hack can be used in any of your favorite oatmeal recipes, but it’s best used when making stovetop oatmeal rather than packaged instant oatmeal.
Follow the usual method to make your favorite oatmeal recipe. I love making it by boiling vanilla almond milk with a little cinnamon and cooking the oats in that mixture. Just before the oatmeal is finished cooking, whisk an egg white or two into the mixture. The residual heat from the oatmeal will cook the egg whites. Whisk constantly to prevent egg whites from becoming scrambled.
Once the oatmeal is cooked, transfer it to a bowl and garnish with your favorite toppings.
My honest review of Jennifer Aniston’s oatmeal hack
I was admittedly skeptical at first because adding eggs to oatmeal doesn’t sound very appealing. However, I was really glad that I was able to overcome that. This is a super quick and easy hack to add more protein to your oatmeal. Depending on the size of your eggs, one egg white can add an additional 4 grams of protein to this simple dish. It’s completely neutral, so you won’t taste any additives at all. And overall, it actually improved the texture of the oatmeal I usually use. It will be slightly fluffy and even more delicious. I wish I had known about this sooner!
You can choose to crack and separate the egg whites from whole eggs and use up the yolks in another recipe, or you can choose to measure out the egg whites from a commercially available paper carton. Either way, your morning oatmeal will taste even better if it’s loaded with protein.
