After laying off more than 1,000 workers across divisions last week and cutting 100 jobs at YouTube, Google CEO Sundar Pichai sent a memo to his employees warning to expect more layoffs this year.
Pichai’s memo said the company would have to make “difficult choices” to achieve its ambitious goals the edge.
The CEO said this year’s cuts will not be on the same level as last year’s job cuts, in which the company laid off 12,000 people, or 6% of its workforce.
“These role reductions are not on the level of last year’s reductions, and will not affect every team. But I know it is very difficult to see colleagues and teams affected,” he said in an email to employees.
“Many of these changes have already been announced, although they are upfront, some teams will continue to make specific resource allocation decisions throughout the year when needed, and some roles may be affected.”
