A Ryanair flight from the UK to the Canary Islands was forced to divert to Portugal after a scuffle involving eight people broke out during the flight, according to reports.
A group of drunken holidaymakers incited a fight on board, and one passenger was dragged from the plane and arrested when it landed in Faro, video shows. Obtained by Daily Mail is shown.
Ryanair Flight 3511 departed from London’s Luton Airport to Lanza Orte in the Canary Islands at around 8:15am and landed in Faro at around 10:50am. We arrived in Arrecife almost an hour earlier than scheduled. According to flight tracking website FlightAware.
Another passenger who recorded the disturbance told the Daily Mail: “A group of men, who appeared to have been drinking, were harassing a female passenger.”
Witnesses said flight attendants tried to intervene when the pestering started to get out of hand, but were eventually rebuffed.
Passengers said the incident prompted the captain to warn passengers over a loudspeaker that “unacceptable behavior” would not be tolerated and threatened to land the plane in Portugal.
When the passengers did not let up, they were told the plane would land in 20 minutes, the traveler told the outlet.
The man who was seen fighting on the plane initially left the plane voluntarily, but he persisted and returned to the plane. Portuguese authorities then forcibly removed him, put him in a headlock and dragged him off the plane, the video shows.
Other passengers could be heard encouraging police as the man struggled with them.
“Bye, buddy!” one man can be heard shouting, according to the video.
“Good job!” another woman shouts.
Another video shows the man being forced into a police car, the newspaper said.
Portugal’s public security police confirmed they were called to deal with the “presence of eight disorderly passengers”. Reported by a resident of Portugal.
Officers said they witnessed passengers “yelling and repeatedly banging on the luggage lockers”, “drinking alcoholic beverages and ignoring instructions from flight attendants”. Stated.
“One of the unruly passengers…became hostile, refused to depart and repeatedly disobeyed commands given to him,” police said in a statement.
Police said officers were forced to use “force due to his constant presence.”
According to flight records, the plane departed Faro at 11:50 a.m. and finally landed at its destination at 1:20 p.m.
