It would be a nightmare for planes to fly out of these locations.
A new ranking reveals the absolute 10 worst airports in the U.S. for connecting flights, with two prime-time hubs in the New York City area named to the list.
finance buzzis a personal finance site. We take into account the number of gates at each end of the terminal, the distance to the farthest gate in the airport, and the transportation needs of flyers, such as trams within the airport, to get to the gate.
According to the data, number one is Denver International Airport, with the longest walk time between two gates being 34 minutes.
So it’s perhaps fitting that someone created a Strava running challenge map called “Gate Change Nar.”
It takes 23 minutes to walk from one terminal to the other.
New York City’s two airports in Queens, LaGuardia Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport, came in fifth and sixth on the list, respectively.
LGA won the spot because the travel time between the two potential gates is 39 minutes.
JFK, on the other hand, ranked as having a low connectivity score, with travel between security and the furthest gate taking 17 minutes.
Although not on FinanceBuzz’s list, Newark Airport is consistently considered one of the worst, if not the worst, in the nation when it comes to transfers and other stressors.
LAX in Los Angeles was the ninth worst in this dataset, with nearly an hour of ground travel and the worst and longest distance between two gates.
