New research compiled in collaboration with the global fintech group Plus500 The city is ranked ninth in the list of the most financially fruitful places in the country.
Plus500 analyzed gross value added (GVA) per hour worked in the UK from 2004 to 2021, using data from the Office for National Statistics.
Gross value added represents the value of goods and services produced in a region, industry or sector of the economy, and is one of the most important indicators of regional economic performance.
Swindon made the top ten because of the major companies based in the city and employing thousands of residents.
A Plus500 spokesperson said: “There are approximately 29,000 companies across Swindon, which includes the national headquarters of companies such as Nationwide, Intel and Zurich.”
“That’s why it’s called the regional business hub.
“The region contributes around £21 billion of gross value added annually, equivalent to £50.90 per hour of work, making it one of the most financially productive regions in the UK.”
Swindon’s gross value added per hour worked is £50.90, narrowly beating it on the list by the likes of Tower Hamlets, North Hampshire and Westminster.
