After an image of a sock-clad foot creeping into the feet of a plane passenger went viral on Reddit, many people wondered what they would do if something similar happened to them.
The viral post received quite a few comments. “Don’t be like this,” user Stefania wrote on the Mild Anger subreddit, along with a photo she said a friend sent her from a recent flight. In the photo, a person’s foot can be seen extending between the legs and almost touching the right heel.
The photo quickly went viral, with over 2,000 people reacting to the image. Most of them were about fear of having their personal space invaded, or stories they had told themselves when something similar happened on a plane.
“This happened to me recently. However, instead of just having my feet there, the guy sometimes crawled his toes up my calves. Totally creepy,” one Reddit user wrote on “253-ish.” Told.
The patron said she “kicked him back several times to no avail,” and the passenger said she only stopped her boyfriend when he “started stomping his feet.”
Another person said he kicked a passenger who kept trying to invade the person’s space.
“every time, [the person] I yelled at them and told them that the area under my seat was mine and not theirs,” Shay B123 said. “They called the flight attendant and she said the same thing.”
SheiB123 continued with another story. “My friend spilled water on the guy who did this barefoot!!”
Fox News Digital reached out to Stefania for comment and also asked etiquette experts for advice on what to do and what not to do.
While reacting physically to these types of situations may be satisfying in the moment, it’s usually not the best option, Rosalinda Randall, a California-based etiquette expert, told FOX News Digital. Ta.
She says it’s unpleasant to see someone else’s feet invading her personal area.
“There, you’re huddled in a small space when you see and maybe smell an intruder,” Randall said. “When you look down, you see your feet. Whether you’re wearing socks or barefoot, that’s intrusion.” ”
Airplane coach seats are “not made for tall people,” she says. However, she added, “It’s not everyone’s responsibility to cater to passenger comfort.”
Randall revealed what you should and shouldn’t do if someone invades your personal space, perhaps without you realizing it at first.
The first thing to do, she said, is to actually use the legroom in front of your seat.
“Gently place your foot on the designated spot and tap it lightly.” [the invader’s] feet — and I hope they get the hint,” she said.
If this doesn’t work, you can move the under-seat bag to that space (if allowed).
“It’s definitely going to hit an intruder’s foot,” Randall said. “And I hope they get the hint.”
If these strategies don’t work and the “foot intruder” keeps coming in, Randall suggested talking to the person.
“Try calmly and politely explaining to them, ‘I know there’s very little space on airplanes these days, so please understand that I need as much space as possible. Please.’ Or, ‘Please keep your foot under the seat because I don’t want you to keep bumping your foot.’” She said, “Please keep your foot under the seat.”
And of course, “it always ends with ‘thank you,'” Randall says.
It is very important to remain calm, even if the presence of unwanted paws makes you irritated, irritated or even downright disgusting.
“If you’re feeling grumpy or tired, or if your communication style isn’t direct and proactive, don’t address it,” Randall said.
Instead, talk to a flight attendant and let the experts know about your situation.
“I wouldn’t have advised this a few years ago, but with more and more bitter passengers, I highly recommend it,” she said.
It is also not recommended to step on people’s feet or splash drinks on them.
“Doing something intentionally to hurt someone is disrespectful and wrong,” she said.
“In the end, you are the one who will be seen as inconsiderate. Always try to be polite.”
Randall also advised people to avoid creating a fuss by videotaping the encounter or announcing the issue to the rest of the planet.
“People might think you’re crazy,” she said.
