Two men were found floating in a kayak in the Gulf of Mexico on Monday and were rescued by the crew of a Carnival cruise ship.
Carnival said team members on the ship spotted two people in the water as the Carnival Jubilee passed the Mexican island of Isla Mujeres off the coast of Quintana Roo.
Carnival said the men were taken aboard the ship, examined by medical staff, and given first aid and food.
Carnival said the men said they got into the kayak after the boat sank.
Jubilee’s crew immediately transferred the men to a Mexican Navy ship. Carnival did not say how far the men were from shore when they were discovered.
The Jubilee left Galveston on Saturday on a seven-day cruise through the Western Caribbean and continued on to Mahogany Bay on the island of Roatan in Honduras after being rescued. The ship is scheduled to return to Galveston Saturday morning.
