Kurt Russell plays Snake Plissken in John Carpenter’s film escape from new york is the main inspiration for Solid Snake from the Metal Gear Solid games. Series creator Hideo Kojima is an avowed fan of Carpenter’s film work, and borrowed Russell’s Special Forces agent name, eyepatch, and gruff demeanor for the video game hero. You improve it, run it, and get paid for it. I’m from another era. We weren’t interested in financially “expanding” what we had created or what I had created in terms of characters. ”
Besides returning to the character out of context, Russell says there was another important reason he didn’t bring his character back in a slightly different video game format than Carpenter’s Plissken movie.
“I’ll take a look. [a script] “That’s not what John wrote,” Russell says, sniffing the air. “That doesn’t stink. John’s not here to do this. He doesn’t do that. Instead of saying, ‘What can we take away from this iconic character?’ Let’s do something, let’s do something fresh, let’s create another iconic character. ”
