Even if it was expected to be released in December
After more than 35 years, Street Fighter is doing something the series has never done before by introducing not one, but two external guest characters in the new game.
However, of SNK’s Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui, it looks like only the former will be appearing in Street Fighter 6 Season 2 in the relatively near future.
Capcom made a new post on social media this evening, confirming that the captivating kunoichi Mai won’t be playable in SF6 until early 2025.
Previously, the developer had stated that the Shiranui Ninja was scheduled for a Winter 2025 release, but there was still hope that she might appear sooner.
Because while “Winter 2025” technically begins in December 2024, it looks like Mai won’t be visiting for Christmas or New Years, leaving Terry alone with the warriors of the world.
Season 2 content will begin on an earlier content release schedule than the first year, so there’s a good chance the wait will be a little shorter for Mai and Elena at least than for Ed and Akuma.

M. Bison will be released on June 26th, while Rashid wasn’t released until the end of July last year. Capcom is maintaining a similar DLC calendar, which allows us to tentatively plan for when the rest of Season 2 will be released.
If we delay it by a month from AKI, Terry’s release could be around August, Mai in January, and Elena in April, but this is just speculation at this point based on last year’s schedule.
Last year too the wait between AKI and Ed was particularly long, with around five months of wait time between characters, so they might keep Terry around September or October this time around to spread the content out more evenly.
It will also be interesting to see how Mai’s release ties in with Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, given that cross-promotion between the studios is underway, with the game scheduled for a launch window of “early 2025.”
Street Fighter 6 developers have been talking quite a bit about Terry and Mai appearing as the series’ first guest characters, and about incorporating their iconic Fatal Fury moves into Street Fighter and the Drive System.
They also answer questions about what this means for the return of Capcom vs. SNK, and why these two were chosen in the first place.
With M. Bison on the way, Terry Bogard may get at least one more teaser for SF6’s actual in-game appearance next month at Evo 2024, which takes place from July 19th to 21st.
