Sky News business editor Ross Greenwood said the “series of major cybercrimes” Australians have experienced so far have “mainly involved ransomware and identity theft”.
“In other words, hackers steal sensitive personal information and then threaten to make it public unless a ransom is paid,” Greenwood said.
“But there is a big danger we need to be on guard against – namely, if hackers were to gain control of the jet’s infrastructure and start flipping switches on and off.”
Greenwood met with Michael Murphy, Fortinet’s head of operational technology and critical infrastructure in Australia, to discuss infrastructure at risk from cyber attacks.
