Dragon Age: The Veilguard is set 10 years after Dragon Age: Inquisition.
During a Q&A session held on Discord and relayed by Shinobi602, the team confirmed several previously unknown aspects of the highly anticipated sequel, including the news that The Inquisitor “will definitely be part of the story.”
We also got a little more information on how the game will unfold, including the news that unlike Inquisition, there will be no power mechanics that impede progression, locations will change depending on the choices you make, and you’ll be able to return to locations you’ve already visited to complete side quests that are described as “handcrafted and story-driven.” The development team also stated that there will be no “fetch quests.”
Additionally, your origin story “will come up multiple times over the course of the game,” giving you “the opportunity to define who your Luke was and who he is now, with plenty of dialogue choices.”
The development team also said they decided to reduce party size from three to two in order to focus on a “more intimate experience” that requires players to balance companion skills much more carefully than in previous Dragon Age games.

For those unaware, David Gaider recently shared his thoughts on Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s romance options. Gaider, the creator of Dragon Age and lead writer on the series’ previous game, posted a lengthy thread on social media platform X, comparing the romance approach to the highly popular Baldur’s Gate 3.
“The move [Dragon Age: The Veilguard] “All of my friends can have romantic relationships with anyone” [Baldur’s Gate 3]”But of course, we have some ideas,” Guider said, before acknowledging that “fans are pretty divided on the romance design.”
Plus, Chris got hands-on with Dragon Age: The Veilguard earlier this week and seems to like it a lot: “I’ll whisper to you, I saw Dragon Age: The Veilguard and was in disbelief. It’s like BioWare is back,” he wrote in Eurogamer’s Dragon Age: The Veilguard preview.
