Former Nintendo president Satoru Iwata had an incredibly positive impact on the video game industry during his lifetime, but now the current president (and CEO) of From Software Elden Ring Game director Hidetaka Miyazaki took inspiration from the Nintendo legend’s teachings.
talk PC Gamer Recent Miyazaki cited the “brutal wave” of layoffs in the industry since the start of the year, citing the example of former Nintendo president Iwata cutting Nintendo employees’ salaries by 50 percent while he was leading the company so they could focus on “making good things.”
Miyazaki said he couldn’t say with “total certainty” what the future holds for the Dark Souls developer, but that as long as he’s running FromSoftware, he won’t approve any job cuts.
Hidetaka Miyazaki: “I believe that former Nintendo president Iwata-san once said, ‘People who are afraid of losing their jobs are afraid of making good things.’ This is a paraphrase, but I completely agree with this idea. I believe it’s true. I believe that the people at our parent company, Kadokawa, understand that I hold this opinion very strongly. I cannot say with 100% certainty what the future holds for From and Kadokawa, but at least as long as this company is under my responsibility, I will not let such a thing happen. So I hope that our players and fans will find some comfort in these words.”
As the source points out, this is a “strong statement” and a clear departure from recent comments from other video game insiders, who have publicly called the closures “difficult” but necessary. To run a sustainable business.
