For the first time in a decade, Fujifilm has updated its largest Instax camera with a new model. Announced this morning, the new Fujifilm Instax Wide 400 is the successor to the previous Instax Wide 300 and adds some key new features.
The Instax Wide 400 is Fujifilm’s latest and largest model of “instant” analog camera, which can develop photos in about 90 seconds. When shooting in Instax Wide format, the Instax Wide 400 produces photos that are 99mm x 62mm, which is twice the width of the popular Instax Mini format. While Fujifilm recommends wide film for group shots and landscape photography, this format is ideal for anyone looking for the highest quality instant photos.
The Instax Wide 400 introduces the following new features:
- Self-timer function
- New sage green color
- New optional color-matched camera case
- Angle adjustment accessories
With group photos in mind, the new model adds a long-awaited self-timer feature (shown in the lead image above), giving the photographer time to move in front of the camera and join in the photo. The Instax Wide 400 also comes in a new sage green colorway, finally adding color to the Wide series that previously only had white (with “toffee” accents) or black color options. It also includes a new camera angle adjustment accessory that Fujifilm says allows users to properly angle the camera without the need for a tripod.
Other physical changes include a redesigned camera body: the optical viewfinder is now located on the right side, flush with the shutter button, rather than on the left side as in the Instax Wide 300. This new placement puts the camera directly in front of your face when shooting (for right-eye dominant photographers), rather than awkwardly shifting it to the side.
Otherwise, the new camera retains key features from its predecessor, including a fixed 95mm focal length and a close-up lens attachment for taking macro photos at a distance of 40cm from the subject.
The Fujifilm Instax Wide 400 will be available from 12 July, with a UK price set at £129.99 – a significant increase on the Instax Mini 300, which retails for £109.99 at the time of writing. The new camera case will retail for £25.99.
We’ll take a closer look at the Instax Wide 400 once a review sample is available, but for now you can read more about it on Fujifilm’s dedicated page. Product Page (It has not yet been released at the time of writing).
