“Coarse cornmeal, buttermilk, bacon fat, salt and pepper. Mix and fry in a dark skillet. Serve hot. That’s my idea of real cornbread,” she wrote. “There’s nothing you can’t eat with a side of warm cornbread, so I always grab two slices and slather them in butter while they’re still warm.”
I’m not much of a baker, but Parton’s recipe seemed perfect to me, and although there were some challenges along the way, the final product was definitely worth it.
