Tablets aren’t known for room-shaking bass, but Lenovo’s new 11.5-inch Tab Plus goes all out in that regard. When used in landscape mode, the tablet has four tweeters and four woofers positioned on either side of the tablet, producing 26W of sound. To make the most of the Tab Plus’s sound capabilities, Lenovo has also included the option to wirelessly connect other devices to the tablet and use it as a Bluetooth speaker.
Powered by a MediaTek Helio G99 octa-core processor, with 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage expandable via microSD card, the Tab Plus is by no means a powerful productivity tool. Lenovo has positioned the tablet as a media consumption device first and foremost, and that’s reflected in the fact that both the front and rear cameras are only 8MP. The tablet runs Android 14, with Lenovo promising two years of OS upgrades and four years of security patches.
The Tab Plus’s 11.5-inch 90Hz 2K LCD display is far from best-in-class, but Lenovo claims the 8,600mAh battery will provide up to 12 hours of streaming (it doesn’t specify whether that’s streaming audio or video), and 45W fast charging will fully restore a dead battery in 90 minutes.
A built-in pop-out kickstand on the back makes it easy to use the tablet as a Bluetooth speaker, while for those who want to listen in private, there’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack that supports 24-bit 96kHz high-resolution audio with Dolby Atmos tuning.
The big trade-off for the four built-in woofers is that the new Tab Plus has a very noticeable bulge in the back, and the tablet has grown in thickness from 7.77mm to 13.58mm. Keep in mind, Apple managed to thin the new 13-inch iPad Pro down to just 5.1mm, excluding the camera bump.
Lenovo didn’t say where the new 11.5-inch Tab Plus will be available to buy outside of “select global markets” starting today, but its $289.99 price tag could make it an appealing solution for people who are tired of carrying around a tablet and a separate wireless speaker to enhance its sound.
