Portland, Oregon (coin) — The Oregon Department of Transportation is informing drivers this week to expect traffic delays and congestion related to bridge work near Southwest 26th Avenue.
This comes one week before a planned closure of a four-mile section of Interstate 5 the last weekend of June, officials said.
There will be partial overnight closures of one lane and shoulder lanes on I-5 near the project area from now through Wednesday, June 26. Then, from June 28 through July 1, both lanes of I-5 in the area of Southwest 26th Street will be fully closed to complete the bridge replacement.
The partial overnight closures this week are not expected to result in a complete closure of the highway, but will likely cause congestion and delays.
Officials said the majority of the bridge demolition and laying of new asphalt will take place over a full road closure weekend from 9 p.m. Friday, June 28, to 5 a.m. Monday, July 1.
ODOT said there may be additional overnight closures of I-5 to complete the work, which could include closures of the highway in certain directions at a time, as well as one- and two-lane closures to complete all of the asphalt pavement improvements and other work, and could affect both weekdays and weekends, but only at night.
