“The Blackmagic Camera app for iPhone has been incredibly popular since its launch last year,” said the company’s CEO, Grant Petty, “We’re excited to give customers with Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel smartphones the same digital film capture controls that we enjoy on our professional cameras.”
Terry Frechette, a spokesperson for Blackmagic Design, said: The Verge Unfortunately, Blackmagic Camera Android AppThe app is “available on smartphones running Android 13 and above,” but is limited to the Samsung Galaxy S23, S24, and Google Pixel 7/8 series. The company was also asked if the app will eventually be available on other Android devices, but had no information to share.
The native camera apps on iOS and Android focus on simplifying photography with a streamlined interface and features that rely heavily on automation, and while more advanced camera apps aimed at professional photographers and videographers often come at a premium, the Blackmagic Camera app remains completely free on Android.
The Android app features the same interface as the iPhone version, with an overlay heads up display that shows important shooting information like focus and exposure, and allows quick access to settings by simply tapping on items in the HUD. Blackmagic cameras can also capture footage directly to their cloud service for instant access for editing and post production in another facility.
