You may have seen a few articles about the development team behind Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD by now. The original 3DS version, released in 2013, was made by talented Canadian studio Next Level Games, but for the high-definition Switch version of the game, it looks like Nintendo has once again enlisted Australian developer Tantalus Media.
Australian Nintendo fan site Vooks.net highlighted this point in their review of the game.multiple outlets, etc. IGN and V.C.G.C. It also confirmed the studio’s heavy involvement in the project, just one day before the game’s official release.
Tantalus is the same team behind The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, which is coming to Switch in 2021, and also worked on Twilight Princess HD for Wii U. Besides the second Luigi game, the studio has recently worked on Age of Empires, Cities: Skylines,Stellaris Games like LEGO 2K Drive. And early on in the Switch’s lifecycle, Sonic Mania and lime.
This latest studio reveal ahead of the official first-party launch follows recent comments made by a Nintendo representative, who reiterated that the company won’t reveal partner developers until the game is released and players have seen the credits.
That being said, we may already know the team that’s partnering with Nintendo to make Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, and Mario & Luigi fans may know something about the studio behind the upcoming Mario & Luigi Brotherhood. Nintendo has also revealed that some of the “original developers” are involved with the project.
