Google Messages Gemini came out of beta at I/O 2024 last month and now sports a double FAB design.
As a pretty noticeable push, a small Gemini FAB now appears just above the “Start Chat” floating action button. When you’re interacting with the rectangles, they appear misaligned. Scroll and everything becomes visually correct.
There’s precedent for this look in Google Drive, where the “New” FAB is paired with a scan shortcut, though the camera disappears as you scroll.
A tap opens a Gemini conversation, giving you permanent access to a generative AI chatbot that still runs on Gemini 1.0 Pro and is optimized to provide succinct responses. Google dropped the requirement for Pixel and Samsung devices this month.
This Gemini FAB for Google Messages is now available to select beta users.
Going forward, you’ll see a Gemini icon in the top right corner of Gmail for Android and iOS to access the Q&A feature, and a sparkle icon to access the side panel on desktop web.
