In the world of fashion and style, it is usually the younger generation that drives the trends.
So I say to you millennials, your time is over.
Here is a list of trends that Gen Zers (me) need to know about to avoid being mocked by younger coworkers or becoming the subject of a TikTok video for wearing outdated ankle socks at the gym.
From haircuts to jeans, here’s everything you’re doing wrong and how to make it right.
Bob is back
You may have dreamed of having long hair in high school, but unfortunately… it’s time to give up on that dream.
While a bob can feel a bit conventional and plain, shorter hair feels edgy and purposeful. Even if you’re just wearing a white t-shirt and jeans, a bob will instantly “tighten up” your outfit and make you look stylish without any extra effort.
Super cool girls like Hailey Bieber and Zendaya are sporting this type of hairstyle right now, so if you don’t copy me, copy them. Or, take a leaf out of fellow millennial mom Kourtney Kardashian and have fun with this bob!
Note: this is not an attempt to blend in with Gen Z and could easily be passed off as a chic “mom bob.”
We need to talk about your armpits
Gone are the days of the “emo swoop” (those who know, know), as the era of parting your hair in the middle has arrived.
This trend is face-forward, which is so Gen-Z, and allows us to embrace our amazing faces, blemishes and all, rather than hiding them.

Personally, I understand this feels a bit confrontational, so why not try to soften the blow by gradually moving your role closer to the center?
You’ll get used to it quickly, I promise!
Crew socks > Ankle socks
In case you didn’t know, ankle socks have outlived their usefulness (and barely any of their usefulness… they always slide down under your feet), so it’s time to make way for longer, more practical socks.
Crew socks are the perfect match with basically any shoe, be it sneakers, loafers, ballet flats, or joggers.

You might think it’s reminiscent of your dad’s ugly 80s outfits, but remember that what was once ugly is now cool again. And there’s a reason why your dad wore it: it’s functional!!
To stay on trend, opt for cute ruffled, patterned or lacy socks, but don’t just settle for standard Nike athletic socks.
I’m not trying to look like I’m trying to run onto a football field.
Halftuck is dead
You know how when you’re getting dressed, you can make yourself look “comfortable” by wearing a shirt and tucking it halfway into your pants?
Well, unfortunately, Gen Z sees through that.
You’ve probably stood in front of the mirror, tucking your shirt in and out over and over again, trying to get it to fit just right.
It’s never easy, you and I and we all know that.
If you want to embrace the casual, unpretentious energy of Gen Z, go fully tucked or fully untucked. Whatever that looks like, it’s easy to achieve with just a little thought.
Baggy jeans over skinny jeans
This may not be new to you, but if you haven’t traded in your skinny jeans for baggy jeans, balloon jeans, or straight leg jeans, what on earth are you doing at this point?
Not only is it much more comfortable, but it also creates that casual, relaxed vibe we talked about earlier.
Pair it with some chunky retro sneakers and you have the perfect look – my job done!
