Walt Disney World has announced that it is overhauling its theme park ride queuing programs to give guests more flexibility in planning ahead.
The latest update allows visitors to select their park rides up to a week in advance — previously, guests were only able to make selections on the day of their trip.
The park add-ons, currently named Genie+, will be rebranded as Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass starting July 24th.
A Multi-Pass allows visitors to choose up to three attractions at one theme park on their adventure day, while a Single Pass allows visitors to choose the time they want to ride each individual attraction.
Guests staying at Disney Resort hotels can select attractions up to seven days in advance for their entire stay, up to two weeks in length. All other Guests can use their passes three days in advance.
The new name for the pass will be valid at both California and Florida theme parks.
However, advance reservations are not available at Disneyland in California, meaning you can only select rides on the day.
Visitors will be able to choose time slots to ride major attractions such as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Space Mountain, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, Slinky Dog Dash and Tower of Terror.
“Lightning Lane Pass blends the features of our current service with those of our previously offered FastPass+ service, giving guests the option to plan ahead and taking the hassle out of vacation planning,” the House of Mouse said.
“These advance purchase periods allow guests time to secure the rides and some of the experiences they definitely want to participate in after deciding on any dining reservations they want to make or any other plans they need to consider.”
“The app will also be updated to make purchasing and planning faster and easier with fewer steps and a new option to purchase Lightning Lane Single Pass and Lightning Lane Multi Pass in one transaction.”
Pass prices vary by date, theme park and attraction, and starting July 24, visitors will be able to see the new prices in the My Disney Experience app.
Disney announced in February that it would raise prices for some tickets for 2025 as it plans to invest about $2 billion in renovations to its Anaheim theme park.
In an SEC filing last September, the company announced plans to invest $60 billion in its theme parks and cruise lines over the next decade.
As part of this investment, Disney World’s Magic Kingdom will undergo its “biggest expansion ever.”
In January, Disney unveiled detailed plans to revamp its Anaheim, California theme park, incorporating new attractions, shops and restaurants into the existing 490 acres.
If approved by Anaheim city leaders, the project could introduce new rides and attractions inspired by popular Disney stories, including “Frozen,” “Peter Pan,” “Tangled,” “Toy Story” and “Zootopia.”
According to the Orange County Register, the $1.9 billion allocated will go toward “theme parks, attractions, hotels, shopping and restaurants west of Disneyland Drive and at the Toy Story parking lot.”
