Southern California was hit by Tropical Storm Hillary on Sunday, bringing heavy rains to the West Coast and causing flooding in some areas.
As the storm hit, social media flooded with comments about people’s experiences. Content was shared on platforms such as X, a microblogging site formerly known as Twitter.
A particular video has gone viral showing a subway station submerged in water. The user who shared it said it was the LA subway station on the corner of Wilshire and Vermont.
The problem is, the video was clearly a joke, as it showcased the magic of Hollywood filmmaking at Universal Studios during the earthquake portion of the tram tour.
While it was clear to many that this was a joke, some reporters following the storm were tricked into thinking it was real and even asked for permission to use the video on the station.
“This is a Universal Studios ride.
“Damn, got it… Subway flood video is fake! That [a] Ride Universal,” KABC reporter Leanne Suter posted on X.
A second video from the Universal Studios Backlot Tram Tour also went viral showing flash floods. X users claimed that a tropical storm hit and flooded the park, but that was all part of the attraction as well.
