Kawarsa Lakes – Kawarsa Lakes has a rich history influenced by the region’s indigenous heritage, immigration patterns, agricultural and industrial heritage, and natural assets. Around these themes, there are many unique and memorable food stories worth sharing with locals and tourists alike.
Through the Recipe Revival project, recipes are collected from community contributions and the Kawarsa Lakes City Archives. By bringing these recipes to life, the program ensures that the flavors and stories of the past continue to inspire present and future generations.
The program’s mission is to collect, document and celebrate these time-honored recipes and ensure that they remain an integral part of the region’s cultural fabric. We can all play an active role in preserving the food traditions of Kawarsa Lakes and try new and delicious treats.
Recipe Revival has released three recipes as a collection.

Kawarsa Lakes invites all residents, foodies, and history buffs to participate in the Recipe Revival project. Together we can celebrate the past, celebrate the present and savor the future of the rich and diverse culinary traditions of Kawarsa Lakes.
We encourage everyone to submit Family favorite recipes, anecdotes, memories, stories, photos and more related to these culinary treasures. Submissions will be selected and published at www.kawarthalakes.ca/recipes.
About Curatorial Services at Kawartha Lakes
Curatorial Services aims to celebrate Lake Kawarsa’s heritage by documenting, preserving and promoting the city’s three-dimensional (3D) artefacts collection, exploring and highlighting our unique stories. .
The city, in partnership with the City Council Fenelon Museum Committee, is managed through the Department of Economic Development and holds a fascinating collection of 8,000 to 10,000 artifacts in public trust for the people of Lake Kawarsa. . These holdings not only serve as material representations of the community’s history, but also serve as tangible witnesses to past and present ways of life.
Through initiatives like Recipe Revival, we aim to celebrate and share the diverse histories, traditions and stories that make Kawarsa Lake a truly unique community.
