George WashingtonHis head has a price tag…because his famous hair is on the open market.
The first president of the United States had a lock of gray hair that was preserved for centuries…and now it’s on sale for $45,000.
Washington’s hair is tied into an oval and bound in a glass case, which is wrapped with pearls. His initials “GW” are also engraved on the back of the case.
The lock was given to the Darby family at the time as they were close to both George and his wife. martha.
Washington’s hair remained in the Darby family for several generations…it was passed down from son to son and is now available on the open market through the United States. moment in time.
Also included in Washington’s hair was a letter dated August 15, 1873…a correspondence between the Derbys and another collector discussing the lock.
Remember… GW, unlike many of his contemporaries, probably didn’t wear wigs and actually powdered his hair.
Pretty cool…and it would take a lot of dead presidents for buyers to take home this piece of history.
