CINCINNATI — If you’re thinking of renting a local Airbnb to host a small party, you might want to think again.
That’s because the service has just begun a major crackdown on parties in rental homes with the help of artificial intelligence.
Ron Coleman would be very grateful for that.
A few years ago, Coleman started renting out her home on Airbnb to make some extra money while traveling. But one of his first experiences was the worst.
“It was rented out for two guests, but neighbors told me there were about 30 people in there,” he said.
Renters had turned it into a party house.
“It was a disaster,” he said. “There were bottles and cans everywhere, the floor was sticky, there was stuff on the walls, it was horrible.”
Flag high-risk reservations
But these days, that possibility has become less likely. With the help of AI modeling, Airbnb can now predict when a rental home becomes a party home and stop it before it happens.

According to the report, an AI algorithm will flag what the site calls “high-risk bookings.”
Warning signs that your rental may become a party include:
- Borrowers live in the same city they want to rent from.
- It is a Friday or Saturday night rental.
- Borrower is under 25 years of age.
- The date is before or after the borrower’s birthday.
And these are some of the warning signs that Airbnb is looking for, with CNBC reporting that since travelers book months in advance, party guests often book just days in advance, the company He said the algorithm can even find out how far in advance a reservation was made.
Competitor VRBO has a similar nonpartisan policy, but because it prioritizes long-term rentals, it doesn’t have as many partisan issues as Airbnb.
After all, this is good news for those living in short-term rental housing on the street.
