Lufthansa operates 13 A340 flights to the US
Analysis of the schedule provided by the German giants OAG From December to February, there are an average of 10 A340 flights returning to Germany from the United States each day. As usual, the variation is wide, from just 5 on December 26th and 29th to a high of 12 on January 2nd and 17th.

The 279-seat, much less premium A340-300 shown above is the most frequently flown (56% of departures). Lufthansa has 17 examples of the variant, but not all are in operation. However, the A340-600, which has eight first class seats and 26 more business seats than the -300, is also important (44%). There are 10 ships in its fleet.

What about SWISS and Edelweiss?
Star Alliance and Lufthansa group airlines SWISS and leisure-based Edelweiss also used A340-300s to the US during the study period, but to a lesser extent.

SWISS has four A340-300s, each with first class, low-capacity, high-premium, and 215-seat layouts. As befits Edelweiss’ different market focus, his five examples have 314 seats.
Networking is explained in more detail below. SWISS notes that he will fly to and from Boston on Dec. 25 using a quadjet, replacing the higher-capacity A330-300. Flight LX52 departs Zurich at 17:35 and arrives at 20:15 local time. Return flight LX53 departs at 21:55 and returns locally at 11:10 + 1:00.
