Two weeks ago, I asked why Americans were in such a bad mood when the data showed the economy was in such good shape. Since then, the disconnect has only deepened. Inflation eased in October, and the rise in stocks and bonds lasted two weeks. Despite this, the University of Michigan’s Consumer Sentiment Index continues to decline.
Many readers cited reasons for their moody mood that had little to do with the economy, including the border, crime, President Biden, and former President Donald Trump.
