Surprisingly, Apple Vision Pro didn’t sell out on launch day, despite reportedly having very limited availability. This device comes in three capacities, with the price of the basic 256GB model starting at $3,500, the price of the 512GB model reaching $3,699, and the top price of the 1TB model being $3,899. His 256GB version of the Vision Pro was quickly put on backorder until March and arrived after its release date, but the initial supply of the 512GB model and his 1TB model never sold out.
YouTuber Aaron Zollo (@zollotech) tweeted The day after release, both high-capacity Vision Pro units were still available for in-store pickup. However, as of this writing, this situation has been resolved, with in-store pickup no longer available and shipping times for all models now reduced to 5-6 weeks. The Vision Pro is only available in the US, but Apple has built a hype machine around the device that heralds the arrival of the “age of spatial computing.”
According to Ming-Chi Kuo, a highly regarded Apple supply chain analyst, Apple Only 60,000 to 80,000 Vision Pro units were available on launch day. Even with the device’s eye-popping price tag ranging from $3,500 to $3,899, experts expected the device to sell out quickly. Competing AR and VR headsets have never really caught on, and Apple, despite its brand and marketing power, seems to be struggling to gain traction.
The latest pre-release media reviews have raised concerns about the Vision Pro’s weight, revealing that it weighs the same as the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. The apps and other experiences at launch also seem underwhelming, as Apple itself has only developed 15 spatialized stock apps for the device. Third-party interest has also been low, with Netflix, YouTube, Spotify and others making it clear they have no plans to create spatialized versions of their apps for devices.
