UAE students are thinking beyond traditional science when it comes to their future, with high-achieving high school students for the 2023-2024 academic year planning to pursue careers in artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity and space engineering, in addition to medicine.
The performing students were congratulated by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in a post by X.
Ward Mahmoud was one of eight students who graduated at the top of his class. Ward, a Palestinian born and raised in the UAE, achieved top marks in his privately educated general course. He plans to study AI or data science at Khalifa University.
Alyazia Al Shamsi, who topped her general studies class at the Girls’ Applied Technology High School, plans to pursue a career in aerospace engineering. When asked why, she said she was “inspired by the UAE’s success in space.” She also stressed the importance of time management and unwavering support from her family in pursuing her dreams.
Nada Al Maazmi, who beat out other students in advanced courses at the Applied Technology High School in Ajman, decided to study cybersecurity engineering at the American University of Sharjah. She said her reason for pursuing a career in cybersecurity engineering was her “strong desire to serve my country.”
Meanwhile, some students are interested in pursuing a career in medicine, such as Abdallah Mekimar, a top-ranking student in the government education sector at Ras Al Khaimah Boys’ School, who wants to “serve humanity” by studying medicine.
Similarly, Waleed Alassadi is also passionate about community service. He hopes to enroll in the UAE University Faculty of Medicine and contribute to his community. This passion is evident from the fact that he achieved the top position in his advanced course of private education.
Mayed Al Humdi, from Fujairah, who led the advanced science course, plans to continue his medical studies at UAE University.
