An Australian CEO who previously blamed millennials’ economic woes on avocado toast consumption has now taken a different, passionate view. He wants his country’s unemployment rate to rise significantly because workers are too arrogant.
On Tuesday, Tim Garner Founder and Director of garner groupsuggested that employees need to be reminded that they “work for their employer, not the other way around.” According to the Australian Financial Review.
“People have decided they don’t want to work as much anymore because of COVID-19, and there’s a big problem with productivity,” he says. Said Australian Financial Review Property Summit in Sydney.
“There’s been a systemic shift where employees feel very lucky that their employer is hiring them,” he said. “In recent years they have been paid too much not to do too much. We need to see that change.”
His solution? Significant increase in unemployment.
“The unemployment rate needs to jump 40, 50%,” said the billionaire real estate developer. “We need to assess the economic pain.”
