Hello and welcome again justicethe podcast about the business of startups, where we uncover the numbers and nuances behind the headlines.
This is our interview show, where we sit down with interesting and knowledgeable people and delve into their favorite topics. This time, we invited Cowboy Ventures Eileen Lee To chat through her huge new article relating to the world of unicorns. If you don’t know, Lee was the one who initially coined the term “unicorn” in a TechCrunch article in 2013.
Lee talked us through the data and taught us all kinds of new terms. You can kind of understand what one means when they say “unicorpse” or “zombiecorn,” but there seem to be more exotic forms of unicorn out there. We even ended up comparing venture capital returns to peaches in a bucket of urine (her words, not ours!).
We also talked about where unicorns are today (19% in New York, for example), and why seed rounds are getting bigger. But really, you should read her post while listening so you can get all the context while reading the numbers!
And for those of you who are here to answer our question,How are Fortune 500 companies ranked?Well, the answer is he won Not the market value!
