Yoshii grew up influenced by the cooking shows she watched on TV. When she moved to New York, she got a job in a restaurant kitchen with little experience and learned the intricacies of cooking and baking. Now, Yoshi is more likely to be found baking bread in the galley kitchen of his New York City apartment. She doesn’t have a dishwasher and doesn’t have any extra counter space. “I think twice before pulling out an extra bowl or toolset to get her job done,” she writes. And it’s the same methodology she shares in her recent book.

The peculiarity of these recipes is that everyone can try them. “People are afraid of baking because they don’t know if they’ve messed up until the end, and the cake will end up soggy or sinking in the middle, or the cookies will spread out into a giant clump on the tray. ” says Yoshi. “But I think once you learn the basic building blocks and basic recipes, baking can become just as fun and improvisational as cooking.” She suggests starting with something simple. “Make a batch of snack cakes and cookies. It doesn’t take much time, energy, or effort, and the result is a delicious, beautiful treat.”
The busy holiday season is the perfect time to get in the kitchen and bake something quick and easy. “I love making cookies whenever I have time,” Yoshi says.
