Baldur’s Gate 3’s latest hotfix patch has delighted fans of certain characters in the game.
His Majesty is an NPC cat found in the game’s Last Write In.
When the game was released, His Majesty was a Sphynx cat known for having no fur at all.
However, it was quickly discovered that this was a bug and His Majesty mistakenly had the same character model as another sphynx cat in the game called Steelclaw.
Developer Larian fixed the error in the game’s third patch, with the patch notes saying: “We’ve updated the visuals of His Majesty, who previously looked like Steelclaw. His appearance now lives up to his name and nature.”
Although this patch gave His Majesty fur as originally intended, the change angered some players who were used to the cat’s hairless appearance.
Now, in the game’s latest hotfix patch released today, Larian has bowed to fan pressure and removed His Majesty’s fur once again.
“Hotfix #8 for Baldur’s Gate 3 is now available,” the studio tweeted. “This update resolves several crashes and issues, including party members transferring all important items to you upon disbanding. More importantly, we have shaved His Majesty’s beard. .”
To differentiate His Majesty from Steelclaw, Larian also changed Steelclaw’s eye color so that the two character models are no longer identical.
Twitter follower Emma Kent said: “Thank you for bringing back my cat’s baldness.”
“His Majesty has recovered,” Luke Rogers added. “The most important patch in gaming history.”
