The next big patch for Baldur’s Gate 3 is coming out soon, and by all accounts it will be a thick one with lots of performance improvements and other fixes. Even better, it looks like patch 2 will deal with Mintara being held back by what director Swen Winke described as “a very, very stupid bug.”
Speaking with IGN ahead of the release of Patch 2, Winke discussed how Baldur’s Gate 3’s scope could cause a cascading reaction, sometimes accidentally locking out content. So is the drow killer in Baldur’s Gate 3.
“The game was very responsive and had some bugs and sometimes some companions wouldn’t respond properly. So it felt like we weren’t seeing any content. I mean, especially in Mintara We didn’t see it,” Winke explained. “So [lead writer Adam Smith] I said there were about 1500 lines in Minthara that weren’t displayed as a result of a very, very stupid bug that has now been identified. So we are solving it. “
Winke said Mintara’s line “worked” in previous versions, but “because of something else it stopped working.” This is the challenge of creating a complex, interlocking RPG packed with thousands of tiny interactions.
“Let’s see if we can do something special for her.”
Winke said the team’s vision for Mintara went through “some iterations”. One of her key differences is that she is not the original her character. That means you can’t play her from the beginning. Essentially, she is what Winke describes as a “sidekick”.
“She’s there to actually serve another character you meet later in the game: one of the antagonists,” he says. “So she was supposed to bring another light to the adversaries out there.”
He continued, “It can’t be helped that some of her lines aren’t triggered. So that’s not a judgment on her legitimacy. But she does have a real, real quest, the origin quest.” It’s never been there…it’s the same thing that’s in some of the other lines.” Inside the third act…so if anyone was looking for it, it wasn’t there. ”
“There was a variation of Mintara that they discovered and it got too complicated so they removed it. Then they didn’t have the whole game land anymore to tell that story. So they found some fragments of it But what I want to say is,
Still, Larian Studios leaves the door open for further development in the future.
“[W]First we’ll solve the issues that are holding back her content, then we’ll see how she’s received by fans, and then we’ll see if we can do something special for her. So the feedback on the game has been amazing and overwhelming for us. So it definitely far exceeded our expectations. So we’re taking it all in and then… filtering it out.So let’s see how it goes,” says Winke.
“We made this game for our players, to have fun. “Miracles don’t happen. We’re still a limited team of limited people working hard to make this happen.”
In addition to regaining access to Mintara’s content, Winke said fans can expect a new epilogue from their favorite Karlach (he said you can tell you found new content by looking at your cigar). deaf and cryptic allusion). “Making a lot of people happy.” It will also include co-op improvements and “many other things people have asked about.”
