Bluesky is a decentralized social network Rolling out New video and music player for in-app links, plus a new “hide post” feature. New additions bring Bluesky’s user experience closer to X (Twitter).
The new video and music player works with YouTube, SoundCloud, Spotify, and Twitch embeds. Unlike X, where autoplaying videos is the default, Bluesky’s in-app player will not play content automatically. If users watch or listen to the content, they have to play it with one click.
As for the new “Hide Post” feature, you can click on it if there is something that you do not want to see again. The post will be removed from your feeds and “put behind a mask if you visit it live,” says Plosky.
In addition to these new features, Bluesky fixed a bug that caused lists of muted and blocked accounts to appear as empty. The social network has also fixed an issue that could cause a blank home screen to appear, along with a crash error that could sometimes occur while interacting with chat threads.
Today’s announcement comes just days after Bluesky finally started allowing users to view posts on its platform without logging in. You still need an invitation to create an account and start posting, but you can read posts through a link. Through this step, publishers can link to Bluesky posts or embed them in blogs. Additionally, users can now share Bluesky posts in individual or group conversations.
Bluesky, which launched iOS and Android apps in February, reached 2 million users last month. While Bluesky is currently the only instance on the AT protocol, it aims to federate “early next year,” meaning it will eventually function as a more open social network like Mastodon where users can pick and choose which servers they want to join and move to. Accounts around at will.
