These devices are typically connected to the internet and are increasingly being added to national power grids, requiring additional cybersecurity measures.
DOE has awarded a total of $39 million to nine projects to advance DER cybersecurity. Each project is affiliated with a national laboratory and will collaborate with a specific group of research universities, utilities, and other industry partners.
The cybersecurity project UND is participating in is affiliated with Argonne National Laboratory, based in Illinois. In addition to UND, other study participants include Iowa State University, Kevala (a data analytics company that works with power grid operators), and ComED (a utility company that serves more than 4 million customers in Northern Illinois). )is.
