Sofia Vergara’s summer is off to a hot start. America’s Got Talent (This is my fifth time as a judge) New Colombian Coffee LineThe actress and entrepreneur has launched a new swimwear capsule collection for Walmart, marking the latest addition to her successful collection with the retailer.
Last month, Vergara celebrated the launch of her swimwear line with a sunset party in Beverly Hills for influencers, models, friends, and press. In addition to hearing from Vergara and Walmart’s fashion team (who also collaborated with Sofia Vergara on denim, separates, activewear, intimates, and accessories), the event featured a runway show where she unveiled her new swimwear, which Vergara described as “super comfortable” and “flattering.”
Vergara stole the show at the party in a $17 ruched one-shoulder dress she bought at Walmart. Griselda The star said she’d originally been saving up for a summer trip to Italy, but recent knee surgery derailed her plans. “If you see me walking funny, it’s not because I’m drunk,” she joked to the audience at the primetime soiree.
Available now on Walmart.com, the Sofía by Sofía Vegara swimwear collection features bikini tops, bottoms, one-piece suits and cover-ups in tropical hues inspired by her travels and time spent in Miami, and comes in generous sizes from XS to 2X, including larger bust sizes.
Thursday We caught up with Vergara after the event to talk about the swimsuit launch, the brand’s continued expansion, and why she’s a real-life Walmart fan.
What was the inspiration behind the designs for your new swimwear collection?
I grew up on the Caribbean coast and lived in Miami for many years, where we basically live in bathing suits and it’s summer all year round. [there]so we always needed new and cute pieces! So I was inspired by that, and also by the vibrant colors of Colombia and the Caribbean.
Some people might be surprised that you’re working with Walmart, but you’ve said this is an important partnership for you. Why?
For me, it’s important to reach my audience. And in that respect, Walmart has always been the perfect partner, because I want as many people as possible to enjoy my products. And I go to Walmart. In Los Angeles, I don’t go there that often because there isn’t a store nearby, but when I’m in Florida or filming on location, I go to Walmart for everything.
You have coffee, clothing, swimwear, etc. Why is it important to you to expand your brand beyond acting?
Sharing these things with my fans is important to me because I want them to experience the same quality and joy that I do. These are all items that I personally use and wear, and I love the idea of sharing this part of my life with my fans. It brings me great joy to connect with my fans and continue to introduce them to my favorite finds. I want my fans to feel confident and satisfied with their purchases, just like I do.
You get offered a lot of partnerships and deals, what does it take for you to say yes to something?
It has to be something that is authentic to me and that I truly love. It’s not just about putting my face on a poster. It’s really a partnership and a brand that we’ve built over the years and we want to continue to grow it.
