CHARLOTTE — Drivers using Providence Road in south Charlotte should expect delays along the way.

The Charlotte Fire Department warned that a short section of Providence Road from Strawberry Hill Drive to Meadowwood Lane will be closed to traffic until Tuesday as the Charlotte Water Department conducts repair work in the area.
A Channel 9 cameraman at the repair scene saw all southbound lanes closed except for one lane open to motorists.
All northbound lanes into uptown Providence were closed Sunday night, the Charlotte Department of Transportation reported.

We asked if this was a planned repair or an emergency, and what caused the repair to be necessary.

Charlotte Water said it had restored water service in the area by noon Monday and was working to rebuild and repave roads.
