BEIJING, Sept 8 (Reuters) – China’s Huawei Technologies Co. began pre-ordering its Mate 60 Pro+ smartphone on Friday, underscoring the Chinese tech company’s success in defying U.S. sanctions. A new version has been added to the series that has attracted worldwide attention.

Teardown analysis firm TechInsights also discovered that the phone is equipped with a new Kirin 9000 series chip made in China by Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) (0981.HK).
The discovery is seen as a milestone for Huawei, whose access to chip-making tools essential to making cutting-edge mobile phone models has been restricted by the United States since 2019. So far, the company has only been able to launch a limited batch of 5G models using stockpiled chips.
The company also launched a new version of its foldable phone series, the Huawei Mate X5, on Friday.
