The Chicago Transit Authority said the Blue Line’s Forest Park branch reconstruction project is progressing as planned and will enter a new phase starting Sunday evening.
According to a press release, Blue Line trains will resume service to Clinton and UIC Halstead stations, a step forward for the project.
Trains will run Sunday at 10:00 pm between O’Hare International Airport and the UIC Halstead Station, and between the Illinois Medical District and Forest Park.
No trains will operate between UIC Halstead and IMD in the second part of the project. Racine station remains closed, according to CTA officials.
A free shuttle bus service will operate between UIC-Halstead and IMD, and other transportation routes for buses and other rail lines will remain in effect.
As the first part of the project, 3 miles of track between UIC Halstead and LaSalle and the drainage system underneath was restored.
The crew will continue rebuilding the IMD-UIC-Halstead track in the coming weeks, with a target completion date of October.
According to the current schedule, Racine’s Loomis Street auxiliary entrance will reopen at that time, but the main entrance will remain closed until the end of 2024. Officials say this part of the project will revamp the station and make it more accessible.
