Cyberpunk 2077 finally has the feature I crave most in all open-world games: public transportation. Update 2.1, scheduled to be released next week, adds a fully functional subway system like the one featured in his 2018 movie trailer for Cyberpunk 2077. It also adds new romantic hangouts with friends, reproducible car races, and new accessibility settings.
If you try to use Cyberpunk 2077’s subway stations at the moment, you’ll only find fast travel points at best. Starting with Update 2.1, there will be 19 more stations you can enter, where you can board the train, sit with other passengers, and watch Night City flow by outside your window. Whether it’s the taxi in Grand Theft Auto 4 or the carriage in Skyrim, this is something I love and would love to do more of. CDPR also says they don’t want to spoil too much about the Metro experience, suggesting there may be more details than can be covered here.
Update 2.1 is also surprisingly rich in other ways. You can now listen to the radio while walking (or riding the subway). You can also do wheelies on your bike and use a throwing knife as a weapon while driving. Several boss fights have been fixed, including Adam Smasher. There are also new hangouts with romantic partners, replayable car races, and dynamic car chases if you anger the gang.
CD Projekt Red released major update 2.0 right before the Phantom Liberty expansion. This resulted in a completely revised progression system including perks and skills, a proper police response system, vehicular combat, and more. It was expected that this would be the last major update as CDPR moves into his development of The Witcher 4 and pre-production of Cyberpunk 2, but for now he has continued to receive tweaks and additions for 2077. I’m glad you’re here.
Update 2.1 will be released on December 5th.
