LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Excitement is building for the Las Vegas Raiders’ home opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, Sept. 24, at Allegiant Stadium.
Maybe you’re looking for last-minute tickets or gear for a game. When looking for bargains, cybersecurity experts urge you to be wary of scams.
Yoav Keren, founder of a cybersecurity company brand shieldsays he has seen a flood of fake websites, brand violations and questionable social media posts trying to deceive Raiders fans.
“Scammers exist because they are successful. These scams work. They can fool people with fake or non-authentic tickets for various games, or they can trick people into buying counterfeit products.” said Kellen.
To avoid becoming a victim, he says, you should avoid websites that are littered with spelling and grammatical errors.
Keren also recommends reading reviews. If a website or company has a lot of negative content, it could be a scam. Also, if you don’t see an image of a padlock or key to the left of her URL in your browser on her website you’re trying to buy from, it could be a scam.
“Interest in the game in Las Vegas is growing and scammers are quick to pick up on that, creating legitimate-looking websites offering tickets for sale and merchandise for sale. Yes, and they are scams,” Kellen said.
Never click on links in suspicious emails or texts. Kellen said it’s especially important to be vigilant on social media as well.
“A lot of times these scams start on social media, so there are many ways to run ads and posts that actually drive potential sales and then drive people to the website,” Kellen said. said.
