good morning. Today is his February 2nd, and today’s image is about the Emission Line Nebula, about 5,000 light-years away in the constellation Cygnus.
Discovered by William Herschel over 230 years ago, the Crescent Nebula is a combination of energetic stellar winds from its central Wolf-Rayet star and slow-moving material ejected early in the star’s life. Astronomers believe that it was formed by a collision between Ultimately, this should all go supernova, and it will be quite spectacular.
Will you or I live to see it? Probably not.
But until then, we can enjoy the nebula for what it is. This photo was taken by Ars reader 1Zach1 with an Astro-Tech AT80ED refractor telescope. This was the result of 11 hours of integration, or 228 exposures lasting 3 minutes each. Photographed in rural Southwest Washington.
I hope everyone has a great weekend!
