Bondi Rescue star Harrison Reid has shared a photo of an eerie rip current off Bondi Beach in a bid to warn Australians seeking a “calm” place to swim this summer.
Speaking to FEMAIL, the veteran lifeguard pointed out that the “innocuous” body of water at the bottom of the image is actually one of Bondi’s most dangerous crevices.
“Rips are very common on surf beaches because the waves crash and the water has to find a way back into the ocean. This is what causes the cracks,” he said.
“What you see in the picture is what we call a permanent tear because it’s always there.”
There are four main ways to find ripples while swimming or surfing. It’s a deep, dark body of water with waves crashing on either side, great water movement, a rippling surface surrounded by calm water, and sand curling up below.

Harrison also listed some of this year’s most notable beach trends, saying beach shelters like cool cabanas remain a “must-have.”
“Beach shelters are definitely back! They’re more common than umbrellas around the beaches here,” Harrison said.
“We also looked at cornhole games and spikeball. I’m not going to lie, I’ve also seen some parents have their kids on leashes.”

For a day at the beach, Harrison always makes sure to bring five essentials – zinc and sunscreen, a water bottle, a snack (usually mango), sunglasses, and a towel.
He favors Ella Bachè zinc and Neutrogena sunscreen, Orlebar Brown swimsuits, Destination Towels, and Curly Lewis hats.
He’s also a big fan of bringing his own pillow.
“Whether it’s an old one you have at home or something that’s been blown up, it’s a game changer for a siesta at the beach,” he says, adding that his favorites are 10:PM Pillow.

“I stock it in the fridge at home and at work,” he said of the mangoes.
Ann Australian mango Ambassador Harrison said the fruit was perfect for a day by the water.
“I keep it stocked in the refrigerators at home and at work,” he says.
“I often take home the mango tuna bruschetta from Vaucluse Japanese Cuisine. It explodes with summer in my mouth.”
It is predicted that 100 million Australian mangoes will be consumed this summer alone.
